Settings
Settings contains product configuration that you visit occasionally, not the
tools used to complete a Session task. Open it from the left rail or the command
center (Ctrl+K on Windows/Linux, ⌘K on macOS).
Available sections
Section titled “Available sections”| Section | Current controls |
|---|---|
| Agents | Status, token usage, prompt/model/budget/dependencies, restart |
| Skills | Configured Skill metadata and manual event publication |
| MCP servers | Catalog connections, discovered tools, saved permissions |
| Automations | Create, edit, trigger, run, organize, inspect, and resume DAGs |
Providers, sandbox policy, server binding, memory tuning, webhooks, and pricing
are configured in axocoatl.yaml; they are not hidden Settings sections. Run
axocoatl validate after changing the file and restart the daemon when the
running process must pick up those changes.
Agent edits are live, not durable
Section titled “Agent edits are live, not durable”In Settings → Agents, selecting an Agent opens its live detail drawer. You can change its name, model, system prompt, token budget, and dependencies, then choose Save & restart. Restart only reloads the current in-memory Agent configuration from its checkpoint.
These edits apply only to the current daemon process. They do not rewrite
axocoatl.yaml, and a full daemon restart restores the YAML values. Copy an
accepted change into YAML when it should survive restart, then validate it.
MCP changes are runtime-backed
Section titled “MCP changes are runtime-backed”The MCP section can connect a catalog entry to the live registry, reconnect or remove a server, list its discovered tools, and revoke saved permission decisions. Connection may ask for required values or secrets. An MCP tool with no matching saved decision still pauses for a human approval when called.
Catalog connect and remove are process-local: they do not rewrite YAML and are not retained across daemon restart. Existing Agent executors are also built before a later catalog connection, so configure the durable server in YAML and restart the daemon before relying on its tools in Agent work.
Automation changes are durable
Section titled “Automation changes are durable”Automations use the canonical data store rather than rewriting legacy YAML.
Create, edit, enable, pause, move, run, and delete records in Settings. Once the
canonical store exists, legacy workflows:, schedules:, and proactive: YAML
are migration input only; they do not repopulate records you delete later.
Keyboard and focus behavior
Section titled “Keyboard and focus behavior”Escapecloses the open drawer or dialog before it closes Settings.Tabstays within modal dialogs.- The command center can open a Settings section by name.
- Closing Settings returns focus to the control that opened it when possible.
